Yoga Better in Your Life
The Yoga Better practice is this: Developing mastery of your own body so that you can feel better, be more functional, strong and flexible so that you can get on the ground and play with your great grand-children.
Every video has many (many!!) search tags. You can browse or search by difficulty, length, a specific posture, an area of focus (such as balance or hand strength), or a therapeutic focus (such as arthritis in hands or a specific shoulder pain). Every video lists those data points, the posture sequence, and a description including what props you’ll need and anything else that the class impacts (like a morning practice vs. an evening one).More →
At mYB, you get a one on one feel in your own home. Our one on ones are the fastest way to learn both your new practice and your body, and in our videos, you’ll be treated to two unique things. First, you’ll notice how the instructions acknowledge that you’re in a room and we can’t see you! You’ll be guided where to set up relative to the screen and reminded of how to best use the visuals of the screen. Second, every video has verbal instruction that is designed to be effective even if you weren’t looking at the postures (which occasionally you’ll be encouraged to do). And as a bonus, you’re given the respect of being talked to as an intelligent adult, capable of learning and are never talked down to.More →
“I started yoga weak, inflexible, and 55 lbs heavier than I am currently”.
Now with over 22,000 hours of teaching experience, and 20 years of practice, Andrew Dugas’ body and life have been transformed. Andrew has been fortunate to be gifted access to the skills that have helped himself and others feel better. After years of chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain, he was introduced to yoga by Paul Ellison at Rice University. His studies with his teacher and friend Robert Boustany empowered him with the knowledge and tools to create a pain-free body. In 2003 he quit playing classical music to teach yoga full time. Cutting his teeth on harder traditional yoga he quickly noticed that much of classical yoga easily injures most people’s bodies. His focus and teaching style is an inquiry to find a way to balance and strengthen the body without injury.
From Handstands to simple walking to complete stillness, Yoga Better offers an appropriate class for absolutely anyone, at any level, at any point in their life. You can often find students between 12 and 89 years old, pregnant goddesses, self-conscious absolute beginners and seasoned teachers in the same class, each able to be exactly at their level. The atmosphere is inclusive, non-judgmental, open, informative and empowering.
With 4 children and the love of his life at his side, his life is one of committed service.
Here at Yoga Better, we are excited to do everything a bit differently. Instead of following any script for how life or career should go, we’ve asked the questions that we care about, and let our answers to them guide us, regardless of whether they fit a norm or not.
Instead of starting a studio first, we spent 4 years just training teachers. Instead of only having public classes, we mostly taught private lessons, and we let the quality of our service build each year organically. Now, we can offer you the fruit of those long years of work.
As Yoga Better teachers, we share a passionate focus on the development of something powerfully effective at shaping how you feel and how well you function. We learn and draw from everything and nothing is too sacred for our scrutiny.More →
